I liked this quote from a great article on Marc Andreesen (of Netscape fame) in the New Yorker.

We’ve landed

Less is more.

Traditional financial advisors make their money by selling you as many high-fee products as possible and having you change these as frequently as possible.  Yet, the research on this subject shows that the best long-term investment strategy for growth is a diversified portfolio of low-cost, index-based funds.  This is most easily achieved via exchange traded funds (ETFs), and the longer you own these assets the better.  Buy and hold.
Stop trying to beat the market.  Be The Market.
